Odisha powerlifters bag eight national medals

An 18-member Odisha squad reaped a rich harvest of eight medals in the Junior & Master National Powerlifting Championship, which was held at Jamshedpur from December 29 to 31, 2015. The medals included five gold and three silver. Besides the rich haul of medals, Odisha bagged the team title in boys group.

According to Odisha Powerlifting Association secretary Chitta Ranjan Swain, Laxmimani Singh secured gold in girls 47kg weight class with efforts of 82.5kg in squat, 57.5kg in benchpress and 132.5 in deadlift for a total of 272.5kg. She was also adjudged strong girls of the championship.

Rupali Palei bagged the gold in girls 43kg class, lifting 80kg in squat, 47.5kg in benchpress and 120kg in deadlift for a total of 247.5kg. She was named the strong girl second runner-up. Her statemate Seemarani Singh pocketed the silver in the 43kg category.
Basant Maleka won the gold in boys 53kg group, lifting 155kg in squat, 102kg in benchpress and 180kg in deadlift for a total of 437kg. He was adjuged strong boy first runner-up. Samarendra Routray and Rakesh Bhukta claimed one silver medal each in 66kg and 93kg categories respectively.

In master-one 120kg class, Ashok Prasad took the gold with a total lift of 510kg, which included 200kg in squat, 150kg in benchpress and 160kg in deadlift. Jitendra Behera secured gold in master-two 83kg group with a total lift of 495kg (170+150+200=495kg).
